Join the Bearcat-Host Physician Program – support first year medical students
The Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine have joined forces to institute a mentoring program for incoming first-year medical students and local practicing or retired physicians. The Bearcat Host-Physician Program matches a physician with an individual student in order to help the student adjust to the Cincinnati area and with the transition in becoming a physician. Efforts will be made to match physicians and students with similar interests and preferences. Once paired, the physician and student will decide how often to meet. Some suggested activities may include, but are certainly not limited to, dinner at the physician’s home, tours of the Cincinnati area, meeting for coffee, or attending a sporting event.
We encourage physician members to consider participating in this new program to provide medical students with friendly support in their new environment. This program gives physicians an opportunity to mentor and befriend the medical student as opposed to the advisor role that physicians usually play.
If you wish to participate, please complete the on-line questionnaire. Your responses will help in selecting the best possible match. Once you have been matched with a student, please make the initial contact to welcome him or her and determine your next step.
If you have any questions, please contact Academy of Medicine Associate Executive Director Donna Gilliam at 513-421-7010 or via e-mail at dgilliam@academyofmedicine.org
