Southwest Protocol Committee Agenda

Members present: Hamilton Lempert, Don Locasto, Joe Spears, Gregg Ballman, Joe Stoffolano, Lindsey Collett, Jon VanZile, Fred Buop

Membership:
  • ad hoc members
  • UC Residents
  • PreHospital Nurses
  • Paramedic Educators
  • Borzata, Johannignman, Pranikoff
  • Attorney through Academy of Medicine or through RPAB or State AG-Hamilton Lempert will look into
  • Core group augmented by ad hoc members no limit on size of group right now, core group should be kept under 20
  • Voting membership: only core members
Meeting place:
  • Felt that needed adequate room, Internet ability, possible secretarial support
  • Everyone liked MERC. Other alternatives, Longworth Hall, B-North, Academy of Medicine. If it is moved, it was felt that it should be kept in the central part of Hamilton County.
Meeting Time:
  • AM seems to work best
  • Friday AM seems best. Tuesday as an alternative
  • Quarterly with more frequent meetings closer to the deadline
  • Discussion board:
    • Use as area for discussion, posting agenda, minutes, communications
    • Hamilton Lempert will investigate
    Short term goals:
    • Assign protocol authorship to individual but have another individual linked as a reviewer
    • Central membership take responsibility for a section of the protocol. To make sure those protocols are up to date
    Set dates:
    • Drop dead date: October 1. Protocols must be complete and fully reviewed and ready for publication.
    • EDS can then approve first week
    • Establish an annual calendar
    Long term goals:
    • Testing mechanism
    • Consider changing to a Training Committee after October 1.
    • Evidence basis for all protocols
      • Citations as endnotes
    Protocols currently under development:
    • none
    Protocols in need of revision:
    • Zofran instead of phenergan
      • Joe Spears and Don Locasto
      • Joe Spears indicated that Zofran costs $5 in IV form
  • Consider adding trauma guidelines and geriatric trauma to Adult Quicksheet-Assigned to Hamilton Lempert
Protocols in need of deletion:
  • None currently
New protocols for consideration:
  • Flolan – protocol for all special needs devices or meds, to be put in Administrative section. Assigned to Joe Stoffolano
  • EMS POD Cipro
    • Jerry Lautz: trying to develop this protocol.
    • Ohio Pharmacy board approval?
    • Suggested to be bumped to the RPAB
    • Hamilton to look further
  • Atrovent – add to protocol – Jon VanZile and Lindsey Collett
  • Geriatric Trauma – already in the protocol S507 page 3
  • New site visit form:
    • Amy Guttman and Don Locasto
    • Core group of evaluators – large
    • need training
  • Peds Quicksheet – needs development assigned to Hamilton Schwartz (in absence)
  • Pediatric King Airway – needs development assigned to Hamilton Schwartz (in absence)
End Comments:
  • Gregg Ballman raised the issue of 2 medics on a run. After some discussion he will look into this.
  • We don't have a current word document of the most up to date protocol. It is in PDF format on the website. Fred Buop and Jon VanZile will look into this.
  • Next meeting will be scheduled for June, after a time and place is agreed upon by absent members.
