May Academy Recap

Food for Thought:

An Excerpt from Our 2025-2026 Academy President's Inaugural Speech

“We as physicians pursue perfection, despite knowing that we will always be imperfect. It IS the practice of medicine after all. Taking care of patients is our sacred duty and privilege. And it is sometimes simply overwhelming, particularly when patients don’t do well. But we don’t have to do it alone.

That’s one of the many reasons I joined the Academy.

The voices in this room are not those of insurers, hospital systems, or even employers. These are the voices of physicians—those who care directly for patients, who bear firsthand witness to the challenges and triumphs of our healthcare system, and who are uniquely qualified to speak to what our patients truly need, and the toll it can take on our wellbeing.

As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, our mission and purpose at the Academy of Medicine remains constant: support, connect, and advocate for physicians across all specialties—uniting around a shared commitment to medical excellence, compassion, and integrity.

Only together can we create a new chapter of healthcare in Cincinnati, and we need your help: your ideas, your passion, (your membership!), and your voice, to move medicine forward."

— Dr. Chris Paprzycki, Incoming President, Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati

168th Annual Meeting & Awards Recap

More than 150 attendees gathered at MadTree Parks & Rec last week for the Academy's 168th Annual Meeting & Awards. Oustanding Honorees including Dr. Edward J. 'Mel' Otten, Dr. Alvin Crawford, and the IPC's Earl Walz and JoAnn Reis were recognized for their leadership and dedication to advancing health in our community.

The evening’s theme “Rooted in Legacy, Rising Through Collaboration” was more than just words. It came to life in the stories we heard, the achievements we honored, and the incredible spirit of camaraderie in the room. The event was a powerful and much-needed reminder that while we can’t always predict what’s ahead, our greatest strength in the face of challenges is our professional community.

Thank you to all who joined us. Your presence and continued commitment are what keep our legacy strong and our path forward possible.

Here’s to what comes next!

Supporting the Next Generation of Physicians

Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $5,000 during the Annual Meeting in support of medical student mentorship programs through the Academy Foundation, including Alvin Crawford’s Black Men in Medicine Cincinnati initiative.

These funds will directly support underrepresented students in their journey toward medicine through scholarships, mentorship, and professional development.

In Case You Missed It: Landsman Townhall Recap

Thank you to everyone who joined our recent townhall with Congressman Greg Landsman.

The evening fostered meaningful, open dialogue between physicians and our congressional representative — with thoughtful questions and honest discussion on the future of Medicare, the role of academic medicine, and protecting public health infrastructure.

Events like this are a powerful reminder that physician voices matter — and when we come together to share insights from the frontlines of care, we help shape smarter, more responsive health policy.
