In Memory of Liz Bonis
A Champion for Our Community’s Health
Our Academy team was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Liz Bonis—a trusted voice in our community and a tireless advocate for the health and wellbeing of others.
For years, Liz helped shape how our community understands health. Through her reporting, she brought clarity to complex issues, elevated important conversations, and—most importantly—made people feel seen and supported in moments when they needed it most.
Her work reflected a mission we know well: a continuous commitment to improving the health of our community. Whether she was highlighting patients in need of kidney donors, sharing resources for mental health care, or amplifying the voices of physicians and healthcare professionals, Liz approached every story with purpose and compassion.
We had the privilege of working closely with Liz as the master of ceremonies at two of our recent Annual Meetings. She brought an unmistakable energy to the role—thoughtful, engaging, and deeply respectful of the physicians and health leaders in the room. She had a way of making each person and each story feel important.
What many did not see was the quiet strength behind that presence. While facing her own illness with remarkable courage, Liz continued to show up for others. She continued to tell their stories. She continued to advocate for the health of this community without pause.
In one particularly meaningful moment, after our President shared his own experience with mental health challenges, Liz immediately recognized the importance of that story—not for headlines, but for the impact it could have on others. She sought to elevate it with care and intention, helping to bring attention to an issue that often goes unspoken.
That was Liz—always listening, always connecting, always asking how a story might help someone else.
Her impact on this community will be lasting. She helped inform, support, and strengthen the people and systems that care for others every day.
We are grateful for her tremendous spirit, her unwavering commitment to others, and the lasting impact she made on the health and wellbeing of people across Cincinnati.
